Farmajo was born in 1962 in Mogadishu from the family of southwest Somalia
Gedo.
In 1985 he was elected as a first secretary of the embassy in Washington DC.
In 1989, he left to earn his history degree at the University of Buffalo in New York.
Meanwhile Farmajo sought political asylum in the US after the government of Somalia fall 1991.
He continued his studies at the University of Buffalo and earning a master's degree in the study of political science and international relations as well.
President Sharif Ahmed of Somalia chose Farmajo as prime minister in October 2010 to succeed Omar Abdirashid Sharmake who resigned in his position, following the crisis.
Farmajo resigned in his position June 2011, after the pressure of the international community among the Kampala agreement between the president Ahmed and the speaker of parliament Aadan ,where the agreement of transition committee were extended in August 2012.
Farmajo in 2011 he founded a new party known as Somali Justice and Equality ,for popular name Tayo. Farmajo is a secretary general of Tayo, which is running by chairman Mariam Qasim, a former minister of women's affairs.
Tayo is the first political party in Somalia led by a woman.
Farmajo speaks Somali and English language and have two kinds of citizenship, Somalia and US citizenship. In 2012 Mohamed was a presidential candidate in the elections in which he was cast in the first round of the elections.
