The National Super Alliance (NASA) has unveiled former Prime Minister, Raila Amollo Odinga, as its presidential flag bearer.
In a colourful rally held at the Nairobi’s Uhuru Park, the opposition outfit name Mr Odinga as it leader and will be deputised by former Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi, who made the announcement, will be the Premier Cabinet Secretary in charge of the state department of internal security and administration of the national government.
Ford Kenya leader and Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, will be the Deputy Premier in charge of the public sector while the Chama Cha Mashinani party leader and Bomet Governor will be the Deputy Premier in charge of the Devolution Sector.
As the Deputy Premier in charge of the Public Sector, Wetangula will oversee the state department of public service and the foreign affairs and international relations docket.
Ruto on the others hand will be tasked with the oversight role in the state department of devolution and planning and will also be in charge of finance and the national treasury docket.
The announcement, which was made after months of anxiety by the opposition supporters, did not come as a surprise as structure had already leaked to the public over a month ago.
The entry of Governor Ruto also distabilised the initial ‘agreed’ structure that would see Musalia Mudavadi named the Chief Minister to oversee government operations while Moses Wetangula would be named the National Assembly Speaker.
Unlike Raila, Kalonzo and Mudavadi who will be campaigning top oust President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, Governor Ruto and Senator Wetangula will continue with their political ambitions to defend the positions they currently hold.
Ruto will face off with Jubilee’s Joyce Laboso in the Bomet gubernatorial contest while Wetangula will face several contestants from ODM and ANC in the Bungoma Senatorial race.
